A Look Inside: Interior Innovation

November 30, 2019

For this project, our clients wanted to remodel and update the look of specific spaces in their home. We began by listening to their ideas and then translated them into living spaces that epitomized modern, impactful interiors.

Kitchen

The vision here was to create a gourmet, chef-inspired, open-concept kitchen; what we began with was a crowded, awkward one that just didn’t work in terms of both aesthetic and purpose. To reimagine the kitchen, we stole space from the dining room, which we converted into a home office. By reallocating kitchen space, we were able to create three clear zones within it: cooking, preparation and beverages.

Office

We transformed the office by putting in a panelled wall and built-in storage space, which served to create a true, working office that was also an elegant entrance.

Fireplace

To accent the newly-renovated kitchen and newly-purposed home office, we took a plain, somewhat boring wall, and installed a contemporary fireplace. We chose heavily patterned onyx like porcelain to create a vivid focal point—the key was to use the pattern sparingly to get the largest impact. To complete the look, we built hidden storage spaces for a stereo and tv component parts.

Master Ensuite

The master ensuite was a small, cramped and dated; there were plumbing fixtures that weren’t used; a tight, dark enclosed shower, and a dated corner tub. In order to create the soft, spa look we envisioned, we had to gut everything. And that’s what we did. Leaving the plumbing in the same location to save cost, we updated the free standing tub with massaging air, replaced the enclosed shower with a larger glass shower that opened up the room, and limited the ensuite to just one sink given that our clients never used them at the same time.

We then created a frame that hides storage, installing magnetic switched plugs behind the cupboards to keep hairdryers and electric toothbrushes etc. hidden and the counters clean —amazing to look at and incredibly practical. And to complete the luxury, spa feel: modern brushed gold tones, huge format porcelain tile book-matched, and low-maintenance porcelain vein cut travertine inlayed with real mother of pearl accents.

Front Foyer Closet

Realizing the front foyer closet was probably the most-used space that might not have received the attention it was due, we created a storage space for a busy family that was elegant, modern and easy to maintain. The Pax wardrobe was updated with doors from Vanguarde, making it the perfect, aesthetically-pleasing place in which to hang coats, shoes, scarves and gloves.
